Donald Trump Feels Bad for the Cornell 7
Disgusting and unsurprising

Can Donald Trump not take the most egregious position on every question he faces? This is one I am sure will infuriate many of you, yet not leave you surprised in the slightest. A few days ago, Donald Trump fielded questions from reporters outside the White House and was asked about his feelings on New York Attorney General Letitia James being appointed as the special prosecutor in the Cornell University gang rape case in which 7 fraternity members sexually assaulted a female student for hours in a truly appalling account claimed by unnamed Jane Doe. President Trump told the media, “Letitia James is a corrupt person. She’s totally corrupt, and I can’t imagine it. And I feel badly for whoever she’s looking at because they won’t get a fair shake. Letitia James is a corrupt person.”
The main concern that was obviously on everybody's mind was whether or not the 7 defendants in the alleged violent, torturous sexual assault were going to get a fair deal in court. We would not want those individuals to face too harsh a punishment now, would we? Just about anybody with a pulse and functioning vocal cords could easily predict that the man held civilly liable for the sexual assault of E. Jean Carroll, whose name appears in the Epstein Files thousands of times and who was best friends with Jeffrey Epstein for roughly two decades, would step right up to defend the defendants in a case of rape.
Maybe Donald Trump just has it in for Letitia James, who has successfully challenged him and his business ventures numerous times in court, and he just wanted another reason to attack her in the media. I do not think it is the latter. Pedophiles and rapists will always go to bat for their fellow pedophiles and rapists. This is a phrase I could say multiple times a day based on any time Donald Trump speaks, but this behavior from the president is deplorable and inexcusable. I know those words will not do much; they do not come anywhere close to achieving justice for the victim in this case, and they do not hold the president accountable to anything whatsoever. I miss the days before this Trump era, when this country's leadership was just that: leaders. Setting aside my criticisms of past presidents, both Democrat and Republican, they at least sounded presidential in that they could construct coherent sentences and easily disavow the perpetrators in a case like this. Donald Trump is just further perpetuating the notion in this country that we do not listen to the victim. Even without knowing the details of a case, the immediate response should not be to attack the prosecutor or fear that the defendants will get “shaken down.” We have seriously reached the lowest depths of depravity in this country, where we have become desensitized to moments like this by the president. Someone we are supposed to be able to at least somewhat admire and look up to. We have not had that in a decade now.
